The following beauty tips may just make your life a bit easier – and the solutions come from surprising places!
Check out the following list of out of the ordinary beauty tips:
1. Use Toothpaste on Yellow Nails
Many of us have suffered from the problem of yellow and stain nails. Most commonly, yellow nails happen when you let nail polish stay on your nails for very long and when you’ve used cheap (especially dark shades) nail polish.
Toothpaste can be used for removing yellow stains from nails. It’s also helpful to buff the nails before you apply the toothpaste. Then apply the paste and let it sit for 10 minutes, scrub your nail beds gently with a toothbrush. You can also add a few drops of lemon for extra whitening; it’s a natural bleaching agent.
2. Protect Skin and Hair from the Pool and the Beach
As temperatures rise, we all find ourselves longing for a cool dip in the pool. However, there is one thing that I really hate and that’s the chlorine smell after swimming in the pool. Not only does chlorine make your hair and skin smell bad, it dries your hair and skin out and it can turn your skin itchy and red.
Just before jumping into the pool take a shower with non-chlorinated water. This helps slow down the absorption of chlorine because your hair follicles and skin pores are like a sponge and when you jump into the pool your body and hair won’t soak up much more water so it will be easy to shower off the residues once you get out of the pool.
3. Treat Burns with Milk
Got milk? Then you’ve also got a great remedy to soothe a burn. Thanks to the fat and protein content in the milk, it is an excellent compress of minor burns. Soak the burn in milk for 15 minutes or so. Repeat every few hours to relieve pain. If you are burnt really badly, it’s best to ask for a medical treatment. However, you can use milk as a first aid treatment.
4. Hydrate before Traveling
Staying hydrated before and during your flight is the best way to protect yourself against getting sick. That’s because lack of humidity in the pressurized cabin dries out mucous membranes, making it harder for your system to flush out germs. Avoid drinking alcohol and salty foods because they are dehydrating.
5. Powder Your Roots
Let’s face it! Sometimes you need to go somewhere and don’t have to take a shower. Baby powder is the solution! It absorbs the oil from your hair and it’s scented so it makes it smells better. Put some on your hand and then use a fluffy powder brush to apply to your hair and the roots. Shake off the excess.
6. Cure Calluses with Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly
Dry hard calluses on your feet are uncomfortable. To soften these calluses, before you go to bed, try putting on petroleum jelly or Vaseline (where to buy), then put your socks on and go to sleep!
7. Soften Your Body with Avocado
Choose one ripe avocado and then mash it up and spread it on your body. Some people use the inside of the avocado skin because of its moisturizing oils. To do so, rub the inner layers of the avocado peel against your face, leave on for 15 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water and pat dry.
8. Spot-Treat Smudges
Dip a cotton swab in eye-makeup remover, and trace it along your eyelids to erase any mistakes you’ve made with your eyeliner when you don’t have time to redo your whole look.
9. Super-Glue a Broken Nail
When one of your nails breaks, you can Super Glue it for the meantime. Before the glue finishes drying completely, dip a cotton swab in nail polish remover and run the soaked cotton along the sides of your nail bed in order to get any excess off your skin. Apply an opaque nail polish to cover the crack.
10. Use Cold Cream to Remove Stubborn Lipstick
One of the best and healthiest alternatives is to use a cold cream to remove that stubborn lipstick. This will help your lips from getting chapped and bruised.
11. Use Organic Brown Sugar to Treat Dandruff
Measure out about ¾ cup organic brown sugar. Add enough extra virgin olive oil to saturate or cover sugar. Then use this on your scalp. Leave on for about 5 minutes and rinse it off.
12. Brush on Hair Spray
When using a hair spray usually your hair becomes so stiff and the overall look doesn’t look natural anymore. To avoid this brush your hair after spraying the hair spray on it.
13. A Quick Remedy for a Soft Eyeliner
If your favorite eyeliner is too soft, there is a quick remedy for this. Stick it into a freezer for 15 minutes.
14. Heat Your Lash Curlier
Using a lash curlier helps to open up your eyes and create more visible lashes. Before you curl, try blasting your metal eyelash curler with a hair dryer for a couple seconds to heat it up so your lashes bend more easily. This trick works on false lashes too.
15. Olive Oil for Youthful Hands
If you want to keep your skin smooth and wrinkle-free, massage your hands with olive oil. The olive oil deeply hydrates, helping to keep skin smooth and supple.
16. Use Bars of Soap for a Fresher Smell
By hiding bars of scented soap in your underwear or t-shirt drawers your clothes and skin will smell wonderful.
17. Use Tea Bags on Splotches

Using egg for your hair is extremely good for moisturizing it for longer period of time. Leave it on for five minutes and then rinse off.
21. Air-Dry Your Curls
Make sure your curls are as dry as possible before you start blow-drying them. Sometimes it’s best to dry them naturally instead of using a blow drier.
